Deep Tissue Massage
In my deep tissue massage, I use a combination of Swedish and lomi lomi moves to sink into the layers of tissue toward the bones, squeezing, pulling, and untangling tense and spastic muscles along the way. What is “deep” to one person, may not be to another, and vice versa. I work both intuitively and with the client to reach the right “deep” therapeutic level for each client. Intraoral Massage
I have the Washington State endorsement to perform intraoral massage, or massage inside the mouth. This type of massage can be incredibly helpful for headaches, neck pain, jaw pain and dysfunction, and even anxiety. Please request this work before the session if you would like to incorporate it into the larger massage time. A little mouth massage goes a long way! Breast & Chest Massage
I am a trained provider of breast massage, and have met all the WA State requirements; all WA LMTs must meet these requirements before undraping the breast/chest area of clients of all genders. Breast/chest massage can be helpful in healing shoulder, neck, or back pain; breathing restriction due to chronic asthma or bronchitis; or post-surgical pain or scarring in the breast/chest area. Breast/chest massage can also release anxiety and increase relaxation when included in full body, stress-reduction sessions. MSTR® (McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release)
I am a certified MSTR® practitioner, and I am thrilled to be able to provide this healing modality! Although this work is incredible for healing all types of scars, I find that it pairs especially well with breast and chest work. Anyone who has undergone breast/chest surgery and is suffering pain, decreased range of motion, etc. can find amazing relief with MSTR®! More information on MSTR® can be found here. |
Pregnancy Massage
This is a regular deep tissue session with the client either in side-lying position or using special cushions for positional comfort. Special attention is given to the areas of the body (breasts, abdomen, pelvis, glutes, feet) that tend to be especially sore in pregnancy. Minor Massage
This option is a light-to-moderate Swedish-type of massage for younger kids (generally age 3-12) recovering from a serious illness, suffering from arthritis, or simply having intense growing pains, etc. It’s a shorter session for a smaller body, making it more affordable for caregivers. Fertility Massage
While massage cannot “cause” you to ovulate, stress and emotional blockage are often a part of infertility struggles of all kinds. When you request fertility work, I add abdominal work, guided meditation, and polarity energy balancing to your session. Pelvic Massage
While work in/on the undraped genital area is not part of LMT scope of practice in WA State, please let me know if you have debilitating pain in or near the pelvic/pubic area. I have extensive pelvic massage training in Oregon State, and know what treatment moves are/are not allowed in this state. There still may be other muscles to address nearby that could lessen your issues. At the very least, I can point you toward physical therapists, or other healthcare providers, who can help you. You do not have to live in pain. |
Massage Cupping
Cupping is an amazing therapeutic tool that has been used for literally thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Cupping uses fire or air to suck out the air between the cup and the skin. This pulls the layers of fascia apart, allowing blood and oxygen to circulate in stagnated areas. Cupping can help reduce chronic tension and “stickiness” in the tissue, leading to less inflammation and tension and better range of motion. I find that cupping increases the positive effects of massage, and some people get amazing relief from pain when cupping is added. Where congestion is strong and the top layer of skin is tight, cupping will often cause petechiae, or breaking of the upper skin cells (in other words, a hickey). These perfectly circular marks are not “bruises,” will not hurt, and will fade in a few days to a few weeks, depending on skin tone. Vibrational Sound Therapy
This type of therapy uses therapeutic singing bowls placed on or near the body to create a combination of tones and vibrations that produce a state of tranquility and act as a massage for the nervous system. Tuning forks may be used on or near your body for the same purpose. Placing the therapeutic singing bowls and tuning forks directly on the body and creating a therapeutic sound wave vibration allows a practitioner to engage with the client physically and energetically. The practitioner generates a vibration on the singing bowls, which creates physical vibration throughout your body. As the bowls and forks focus on the physical connection, the practitioner focuses on spiritual and energetic connections. Vibrational sound therapy can reduce stress, pain, and depression; ease blockages and tension; improve sleep and concentration; balance energy and lower blood pressure; and Reduce brain cycles from the sometimes chaotic gamma and beta cycles, to the more healing alpha, theta, and delta cycles. |
Hot & Cold Therapy
I use moist heat packs, hot stones, biofreeze, and sometimes even ice, to heat and cool the tissue as needed. Vibration
In hip and glute work especially, I sometimes add vibration via my “massage gun” to shake the muscles out of persistent patterns. Aromatherapy
I use natural oils, choosing mostly by my intuition. Lavender, lemongrass, rose, sweet orange, mugwort, peppermint, and clove are used most often, along with a host of others. I always ask first about allergies and headache issues before using any scented oils. |
